Marine Science Day 2008

When: September 20, 2008 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Location: BIOS
Marine Science Day 2008 at BIOS On Saturday, September 20, BIOS will be hosting our annual open house, Marine Science Day 2008! MSD, at the Ferry Reach institute, will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with free admission and parking. This year's open house will feature exciting scientific displays and experiments, including hands-on displays showing tropical marine animals found in Bermuda including sea grass beds and their associated animals. Microscopes will be used to look at interesting algal and bacterial cultures. We will have Air Quality and ship Instruments on display. Finally, there will be an amazing ocean acidification display that you will need to see to believe. We will be holding a lecture series in Hanson Hall, which will cover topics studied at BIOS. For all ages there will be tours of BIOS' 168-foot research ship, the R/V Bank of Bermuda Atlantic Explorer. Also on the programme are crowd favourites from previous years, such as mini-research cruises aboard the R/V Stommel, followed by a plankton lab with Dr. James Wood where you can identify what you have caught. Children of all ages are invited to participate in hands-on wacky science and Fishy Business arts & crafts, and to have fun learning during BIOS' annual puppet show. Hot food and cold drinks will also be available throughout the day. http://www.bios.edu/events/marine.html
