The Persuasions may not have invented a capella. They have however, carried the torch and kept the art form alive, sometimes single handedly, for over four decades. They have done this by staying true to themselves, true to the music and true to their fans. this calendar is brought to you by BrooklynVegan
Minneapolis native Brother Ali's smash-record "The Undisputed Truth" was on everybody's Top 10 lists of 2007 — and we're not just talking hip-hop here. His sharp, insight filled lyrics find sweet harmony with his soul sampled, head nodding beats. this calendar is brought to you by BrooklynVegan

DanceBrazli w/ Max Pollak and RumbaTap Traditional Brazilian dance and capoeira meet Latin rhythms, jazz, tap, and body DanceBrazil, at the suggestion of the late Alvin Ailey, was founded in 1977 by choreographer Jelon Vieira, who is widely credited for introducing Afro-Brazilian dance and Capoeira to the US. Today, the company’s mission is to create dances inspired by Mr. Vieira’s love and understanding of his native Bahia, which have the capacity to further the development and understanding of Brazilian/Afro-Brazilian based culture. The evening will feature a performance of “Ritmo”, Mr. Vieira’s homage to Capoeira. Max Pollak inventively melds Latin rhythms, jazz, tap dance, and body percussion to create RumbaTap, a company comprised of a multi-talented, international cast. Pollak, named one of “25 to Watch in 2007” by Dance Magazine, is also responsible for conceiving the first-ever tap festival in Cuba. RumbaTap has been performed, taught and exhibited all over the world. --- this calendar is brought to you by BrooklynVegan

Maria from Sesame Street, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter JOAN OSBORNE, and Emmy Award-wining actor JAMES McDANIEL read classic Keats stories between sets.
