User Profiles Pro Demo

| | Comments (17) | Views (484)
This MT4 Test Blog now has User Profiles Pro installed and running.  Try it out now!

Before you start, if are currently logged in to MT Hacks, you should first click the "sign out" below.  This because the test blog is on a different MT installation, and you will need to login to this one in order to test.

  1. Next, starting by clicking the "Sign in" link below.  Sign in using any authentication method, or register an account with this MT install if you want.
  2. After you have signed in, User Profiles Pro will go to work in the background and try to fetch your profile image from the database.  If it doesn't find one, it will then try to import an profile image from several popular web services.
  3. If it finds one, your image should automagically appear beside the welcome greeting.
  4. If  this doesn't happen, you can upload your profile image by then clicking the "Edit Profile" link. You can upload a photo and edit your profile (note: upload only small-size images, as my server will give you an error if the file size is too big).
  5. Finally, you can click the "Edit Extended Profile" link to add additional profile information.
  6. Save your profile and return to this entry.
  7. Now post a comment to this entry.
  8. Click your name beside the comment to view your published profile.

Test Comment

Here is a comment to kick things off...

Looks like a great plugin!

Hera are my notes from a fist use.

Used a Typekey login. Basic info appears and somehow my profile image is automagically imported (nice!) but the e-mail address reported is a string of numbers. I can edit it and the edit does save.

Edit Extended Data show a spurious SAVE and EXIT button, clicking on SAVE shows the screen to edit all the extended fields. There's also an error/warning at the bottom of that page about Tags.pm.

Thanks for the comments, Kevin.

The TypeKey email thing is the nature of the way TypeKey accounts get stored in the system. Perhaps there is a better way to handle them to avoid confusion. Hiding the email field is an option, but enabling TK users to add their email address is valuable for site owners. I will need to test for any side effects of that.

Regarding the Extended Profile, what browser are you using? I wonder if I need to tweak the CSS a little for cross-browser support...

OOPS

After posting the above comments the page that returned was broken. Where I expected the comment to appear your original post appeared again, followed by all the previous comments and a comment form without a sign-in or sign-out??????????

Thanks

Thanks for pointing that out Merv. It could be a problem relating to MT Forum. I will test and fix.

I figured it out

Thanks again, Merv. The problem happened because I tweaked a setting for the MT Forum demo, which kinda breaks Ajax Comments at little. ;) Neither has a bug, but I have either disable Ajax Comments or update my templates to properly support it when replying to forum topics. Thanks again for the report.
